Microsoft Skype for Business Appear Offline - End User Training - How to set Skype Offline Status

Skype for Business provides a new user experience that is based on the Skype consumer product experience. In addition to all the features of Lync, Skype for Business provides new features with simplified controls and familiar icons.

For detailed information about the new client experience, see Explore Skype for Business. Skype for Business Server supports the new Skype for Business client experience as well as the Lync client experience. As an administrator, you can choose the preferred client experience for your users. For example, you might want to deploy the Lync client experience until users in your organization are fully trained in the new Skype for Business experience. Or, if you have not yet upgraded all users to Skype for Business Server, you might want all users to have the same client experience until all are upgraded to the new server.

If your organization has both Skype for Business Server and Lync Server deployed, the default client experience will differ depending on server versions and UI settings. When users launch Skype for Business for the first time, they will always see the Skype for Business user interface--even if you have selected the Lync client experience.

After several minutes, users are asked to switch to Lync mode. For more information, see First launch client behavior later in this topic. The Lync client experience is not an option for Skype for Business client versions or later. Before you attempt to configure your client environment to use the Lync client, please check the client version to ensure it does not start with the number 16; for example: The following command selects the Skype for Business client experience for all users in your organization affected by the Global policy remember, site or user-specific policies override the Global policy :.

The next command selects the Lync client experience for all users in your organization affected by the Global policy:. The next command selects the Skype for Business client experience for all users within the Redmond site:.

If you want to configure the client experience for specific users within your organization, you can create a new user policy by using the New-CsClientPolicy cmdlet, and then assign the policy to specific users by using the Grant-CsClientPolicy cmdlet.

For example, the following command creates a new client policy, SalesClientUI, that selects the Skype for Business client experience:. After several minutes, users will then be asked to switch to Lync mode. If you want to display the Lync user interface when users launch the Skype for Business client for the first time, follow these steps before the client is started for the first time after being updated:.

Update the system registry on the user's computer. You should do this before the first time users launch the Skype for Business client, and you should do this only once. For information about how to create a Group Policy Object to update the registry on a domain joined computer, see the section later in the topic. The Lync user interface will now be displayed when users launch the Skype for Business client for the first time.

When users open the Skype for Business client, the default behavior is to display a Welcome screen that includes 7 Quick tips most people ask for. You can turn off the display of the Welcome screen but still allow users to access the tutorial by adding the following Registry value on the client computer:.

If you do not want your users to be able to access the tutorial, you can turn off the client tutorial with the following Registry value:. You can turn the tutorial back on by setting the Value data to 1. If your organization has both Skype for Business Server and Lync Server deployed, the client experience will differ depending on server versions and the Skype UI setting.

The following table shows the initial client experience based on server version and the UI setting:. The next table shows the client experience when the administrator changes the initial setting for the Skype UI experience:. Lync Server - February Cumulative Update 4.Requires administrative rights to your computer. Make sure you check out the Pomodoro Windows App that makes it even easier to set custom presence states.

Turns out, you can by creating an XML file and adding a setting in your local registry. The easy way is to download my scriptchange the custom presences that is predefined in the script and run it. Thanks for ur guide, really helpful. Firstly, I tried with ur custome statuses and it worked! However, I wanted to change the statuses and customize them from myself.

Did you replace it with your own path? Is the xml stored there? If you tried away status, that will break cyst om presence states.

If all looks good. Thank you very much for your quick reply! I think the problem was I added many statuses. I have really appreciated your attention. Just mentioning if it might help someone else out.

But, when I ran it in Windows 10 Enterprise, I get 4 messages that indicate:. Hi, thanks for your feedback. Maybe you could try the new app for custom presence and Pomodoro timer? You can do available, busy and do not disturb.

Thanks for the feedback. It would be nice if we could do it. Hope somebody can come up with a resolution. Hi guys, Not sure why we need an XML syntax here? Can you explain? Thanks, Nico. It is not working on my system and any of the custom statuses are not visible on the status screen. Is it possible to set a default status?

I would like to have it at Do not Disturb, or at least Busy. It is very frustrating to have people inundate you the moment you come online. Thanks for your prompt answer. I am of course aware of that possibility, but I have the SfB set to start automatically at Windows logon and would like to preset the startup status.

In order to use Quality of Service, however, you will need to reassign the various traffic types audio, video, media, application sharing, and file transfer to a series of unique port ranges. This can be done by using the Set-CsConferencingConfiguration cmdlet. End users cannot make these changes themselves. Port changes can only be made by administrators using the Set-CsConferencingConfiguration cmdlet.

You can determine which port ranges are currently used for communication sessions by running the following command from within the Skype for Business Server Management Shell:.

Assuming that you have not made any changes to your conferencing settings since you installed Skype for Business Server, you should get back information that includes these property values:. If you look closely at the preceding output, you'll see two things of importance. That's important because, when this property is set to False, Skype for Business clients will use any available port between ports and when involved in a communication session; this is true regardless of any other port settings for example, ClientMediaPort or ClientVideoPort.

If you want to restrict usage to a specified set of ports and this is something you do want to do if you plan on implementing Quality of Servicethen you must first enable client media port ranges. That can be done using the following Windows PowerShell command:.

To enable client media port ranges for a specific site or server, specify the Identity of that site or server when calling Set-CsConferencingConfiguration:. Alternatively, you can use this command to simultaneously enable port ranges for all your conferencing configuration settings:. The second thing of importance you will notice is that the sample output shows that, by default, the media port ranges set for each type of network traffic are identical:. In order to implement QoS, each of these port ranges will need to be unique.

For example, you might configure the port ranges like this:. In the preceding table, client port ranges represent a subset of the port ranges configured for your servers. For example, on the servers, application sharing was configured to use ports through ; on the client computers, application sharing is configured to use ports through This, too, is done primarily to make administration of QoS easier: client ports do not have to represent a subset of the ports used on the server.

For example, on the client computers you could configure application sharing to use, say, ports through However, it is recommended that you make your client port ranges a subset of your server port ranges. In addition, you might have noticed that ports were set aside for application sharing on the servers, but only 20 ports were set aside for application sharing on the clients. This, too, is recommended, but is not a hard-and-fast rule.Keep in touch and stay productive with Teams and Officeeven when you're working remotely.
