Synology rma

This will show you how to install Plex on your Synology and then suggest a couple ways you can organize your media. The most important aspect of all this is to avoid the trouble spots where you can cause yourself headaches. Notice This How-To is in draft form. Please excuse any errors or omissions. To overcome this limitation, and to overcome a Package Center limitation which prevents downgrading without uninstalling. The Plex share solves this problem and a few more. Persistently store all the downloaded and generated information for all your posters, metadata, and other customizations Collections, Playlists, etc.

As Plex evolves, when changes are required, we know everything is safely all in one location and isolated from your media files. We can safely do what we need without impacting your content. Make recovering from problems easier. Initially, the Plex share was hidden. That was unacceptable. This is by design.

All we did is hide it there.

The Plex share can be made accessible with a few mouse clicks. After that, you can readily access the Log files and resolve other problems entirely with the GUI. The cases where you will need to access it in File Station are:. The most important part of this setup presumes requires you to be on the same RFC Private Network e. You have created a Plex.

Your Plex. Settings - Server - Network - Show Advanced. Best results are to use LAN 1 only on systems with multiple adapters during initial setup. Those scanners make assumptions based on which type of media. Poorly named or structured media makes Plex work harder to try and figure out what your intent is.

Do Not use the Synology pre-defined shared folders for Plex. Best advice is to not use them. You can create a shared folder for each type or even each library section you plan to make e.

The important point here is that you create a structure and organize in a way which works best for you! To avoid accidental confusion, there is no harm in deleting them. Whatever your decision, as long as you avoid the Synology shared folders and make names which work best for you then all is good.

Synology claims permanent ownership of the videophotosand music shares even when their products Video Station, Photo Station, and Audio Station are not installed. It is for this reason, we URGE you to create your own shared folders for your media.

This is because Synology updates at a slower pace. The first thing it will ask is where to install Plex. If you made 2 or more volumes, you can select which one Plex is installed on in the drop-down volume selector. This is because you still have a little bit of work to do. Next is the Encryption option. This is a personal choice. This form is probably easier for most Highlight the share you want to edit.Looking at replacing the storage at work and need something simple that a small IT team can look after with ease.

I am looking at two options one is a pair of Synology FS's comes with 5 year warranty with next day for 3 years and so do the drives in a HA cluster with Seagate Nytro 1.

Review Part 1: Synology Diskstation DS918+ Hardware \u0026 Getting Started

There is also going to be a failover site that is replicated two every 5 minutes, so there is redundancy there. That storage will be another decision will go with a different vender to give as much variance so if a problem hits one platform it wont hit the other.

The server estate connected will be 3 hosts with around 50 vm's. There are also 3 databases they don't get much abuse most have a maximum of 50 user connected.

We have internal users only external is a job application site. Paying so much for drives for the firmware so you don't get weird issues or have to remove all non HP drives before support will help.

Installation and Setup of Plex Media Server on Synology

I have come from a larger environment with bigger budgets 10k users and 3par. So want to make sure I make the right decision. The geek in me wants to go with the Synology setup as I know I can get more speed but my business head says the MSA, tried and tested with active active controllers.

Have you had experience of using synology for this sort of purpose in production and if so what sort of environment. It is all about budget and use cases I have under 27 Organisations subsidiaries. Coz in a user Organisation, most of the load would be on file servers which should have moved off the the Dual solution instead of residing on VMs. The longest I have seen for Synology HA is delay of 16s and not 60s. The average is approx 5s Synology support isn't remotely close to HPE support.

Use Synology as a bard up target or secondary archive storage. One replicates to the other in a data center. We are using Snapshot Replication. We did this for cost savings. The speed of the file system is very fast and no complaints from users. We have it setup as a file server for Windows and Mac user. I've posted lots of things about this, as has Microsoft.

It isn't fault tolerant. I would go with HPE for enterprise storage needs. You could use something like Starwind to achieve fault tolerance with the HPE equipment. It can also scale out your block storage needs. Kooler can give some more input.

Kooler is the storage go to here in my book. I guess it largely depends on how large your organization is and how much you want to spend.

I have a P here that is now used for our test environment. When I first started here it was the production SAN.I knew it was still under warranty, so I submitted an RMA request, hastily connected a USB drive to my server running Backup Exec to give it a different place to store backups the Synology was my B2D targetkicked off full backups since my old backups were now unavailable, and went home.

The next day, I got an email that a replacement would be required, with a link and info to complete an "Advanced RMA Request". I submitted it, and was happy that I'd get a replacement shipped, allowing me to swap over my drives, get back in business, and then box up the old one and ship it back.

I heard nothing else. I just logged back in to the RMA site, and there's a tracking number. Once the shipment arrives at our facility, the tracking status--including the scheduled delivery date--will be updated. Did someone drop the ball? Are they waiting to receive the old one first? If so, what does "Advanced" mean?

That they stick a label on a box in advance, and then wait for me to ship mine? Surely not. Average time to ship is business days. Your unit is due to ship anywhere between business days.

OK, well, cool on the upgrade to 2 day, but wow I'm guessing that means I'll be getting a repaired unit that had died for someone else. To continue this discussion, please ask a new question. Get answers from your peers along with millions of IT pros who visit Spiceworks.

RMA it, and get a replacement that isn't susceptible to the bug. That's unfortunate but good to know. Thanks for the info. Will contact Synology and see what shakes out. So this morning I woke up to kids complaining that Plex is not working Try power, nothing, not even a flicker of the fans when power is turned on. I have been doing a lot of reading this morning and it seem's my box now has a 3 year warranty.

I have submitted a request to return it to Synology - I hope that this can be easily resolved Don't get mad at Synology for this one. Its likely to be the Intel processor bug. Nutrimentia wrote: That's unfortunate but good to know. It is most likely is the processor bug, mentioned by Dr. Call Synology for support it should be covered still, mine was, and it was extended. They won't tell you it is the processor bug though.

The process is pretty easy and quick. They will ship you a refurbished unit you just pull out your old disks and put them into the new on, rebuild patch and go. Then return the old unit. No costs to you.

Good luck! Apologies for the resurrection of this old thread but I had another issue with my NAS. It's a simple problem: one of my drive trays won't latch and thus cannot be closed in the NAS body.

I can't see any broken or missing pieces and just wanted to check if there was a hack to fix or if I just need to buy a new tray. BTW, Synology replaced the earlier drive with no issues. Holy thread necro
